About Dr. Cappelli

Dr. Mimi Cappelli is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing. She joined Trenton State College in 1980 and has taught a range of undergraduate and graduate courses covering nursing care of adults (classroom and clinical components), holistic health assessment, nursing interventions, nursing research, professional role development, and perspectives in advanced nursing practice. She incorporates years of acute care clinical, professional, legal and military nursing experience into her classes and strives to make every learning experience authentic for students. Her pedagogical approach involves thoughtful consideration of every aspect of nursing practice and care of hospitalized patients.

Dr. Cappelli was a flight nurse in the United States Air Force Reserve for over 25 years. During that 25-year period, she served as a flight nurse, Director of Continuing Nurse Education and Chief Nurse Executive of the 714th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, McGuire AFB, NJ. She was activated and deployed to Ramstein Air Base, Germany during the Gulf War and treated wartime injuries suffered by service men and women of all armed service branches. During her tour of duty she worked air evacuation missions between Ramstein AB, Germany and Andrews Air Force Base, MD.

Dr. Cappelli is an active member of her professional nurses’ associations. She served as President of New Jersey State Nurses Association from 2000 – 2002 and served on the Board of Directors from 1998 to 2004. She was a New Jersey Delegate to the American Nurses Association House of Delegates for over 5 years.

Dr. Cappelli received her BS in nursing from Trenton State College, MA in nursing education from New York University, and EdD in Counseling Psychology from University of Sarasota.
